Gentlement Prefer...What?!?!

So, last weekend Jeff and I celebrated Valentines.  He grilled steaks then we sat down and watched a good classic movie:  "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes."  It stars two legendary Hollywood icons, Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell.  Two of the most classic sex symbols of the screen.  Certainly Marilyn remains one today.  Yet it got me thinking...If Marilyn and Jane were to try to make it in Hollywood today, would they?  Compared to the Paris Hilton's of today...where would they place.  Here are a some shots of the gals from this classic film:

Two gorgeous ladies...I don't think anyone would dispute this.  They were at the top of their game back in the day...Every girl (and let's face it, many of the Hollywood leading men) wanted to be them and every straight guy wanted to be with them.  Now, to compare with some samples of today's leading ladies:

Just look at the difference...no wonder so many girls these days suffer from eating disorders and low self esteem if that's what we have to aspire to.  Now, let me just say, this isn't supposed to be some kind of feminist rant.  I'm just saying, maybe the past should teach us something.  Most of the men I've polled, including my fiancee' Jeff, like a girl with some curves. It's shameful that women these days grow up thinking that they need to be a size "0" to fit in.  Let's go back to the day of the pinup.  When women were proud of their curves and liked to show them off!  Trying to adhere to a modern notion of what makes women beautiful is exhausting and, lets face it, a lot of the time unhealthy.  And let's face it, sometimes a girl just needs to eat a sandwich and not feel guilty about it!
